Green Events

MI Green Team produces a wide variety of events, from exclusive member events to major community events, including some of the planet's largest Earth Day and Green Living festivals, with as many as 200 exhibitors and 70,000 attendees. In addition, MGT promotes Live Green Fairs in major general-audience festivals and partners to produce outstanding special events with non-profit members.

    • Awards at MI Earth Day Fest - Main Stage, Fri. 7pm
    Nominate your local green hero!

    The highlight of the MI Earth Day Fest Kickoff & Awards Ceremony will be the fifth annual MI Green Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony, which will recognize the dedication and achievement of a some of Michigan's leading green heroes.


    Nominations will be accepted in a variety of categories including business, education, government, community, individual, and student achievement.

    To nominate an award winner, click the Register button. Enter your (nominator) email address and your name, and feel free skip non-required fields. Enter all required nominee information fields at the bottom of the form. 


    The nominee must be available to receive the award on Friday, April 24 at 7 pm, at the MI Earth Day Fest in Rochester to be eligible. If this is not the case, please do not nominate them. We also prefer that the nominator (or representative) be present to provide an introduction of the award recipient. 


    MI Green Team will review nominations upon receipt and select one award recipient in each category. The 2015 MI Green Hall of Fame inductees will be announced before April 1st.

    US Green Building Council- Detroit Regional Chapter Green School Committee announces...


    The 5th Annual
    My Green School
    Art Contest!


    To help us promote the Green School in a Lunchbox program, we invite students to demonstrate a green school through art work.

    Who Can Enter:

    • Any child in a Michigan school or homeschooled program - grades K-5.

    Semi-Finalists:

    • 3 semi-finalists from each grade, K-5, will be invited to a luncheon sponsored by Greenblendz for final judging and awarded a participation certificate & prizes.
    Top Finalists:

    • 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners from each grade will be honored at the Kickoff/Awards Ceremony at the MI Earth Day Fest
    • Artwork displayed in traveling art show at the MI Earth Day Fest (Rochester), Michigan Energy Fair and Next Energy

    Judged By:

    • USGBC-DRC Green Schools Committee representative
    • Daniel Cascardo, prominent local artist
    • Detroit Institute of Arts representative

    Contest Guidelines

    Artwork:


    Create a picture to show what makes your school green, or how your school could be green

    • Use paper or card stock, up to size 12 x 18
    • Any medium can be used: paint, crayons, pencil, collage, photos, stencils, etc.
    • We encourage the use of recycled paper
    • Please no glitter or copyright or trademark images
    • Do not include the student’s or school’s name within the artwork
    • Do not include matting or framing with submission
    • Individual entries only

    Judging Criteria:

    • Concept: Does it communicate the theme or message?
    • Creativity: Is the art original and unique?
    • Quality: Is there effective use of materials?

    Deadline & Submission:

    • Submissions by email or mail.
    • DEADLINE: March 31. 2015 11:59 PM 
    • Email a photo of artwork with completed form to: MyGreenSchoolArt@usgbcdetroit.org
    • OR, Mail (postmarked by April 20, 2015) to:

    MI Earth Day Fest Kickoff
     
    Enjoy great music, networking, and celebration. Join media, community leaders, and award winners, as well as event sponsors, managers and supporters, for the kickoff of the MI Earth Day Fest. 


    The one-hour program will be highlighted by the fourth annual green awards ceremony, at which a select number of local Earth Day heroes will be inducted into the MI Green Hall of Fame, and the talents of the winners of the USGBC Kids Art Contest will be recognized.

    All are welcome to attend and registration is not required. However, seating is limited and will be reserved for registered attendees. To register, click the Register button.

    Donations will be accepted on behalf of the US Green Building Council Detroit Regional Chapter for its green schools programs.

    Registration is not required. For best seating, arrive early.

    • MI Earth Day Fest - Main Stage

    Join the Earth Day Parade & Pep Rally.




    Bring your non-motorized vehicles, pets, dance-moves and earth-friendly displays and costumes. Meet at the Main Stage and join in the parade around the Rochester City duck pond and through the Park.

    The 1/4 mile parade will conclude at the Main Stage for a Pep Rally. Use your voice, instruments and drums to and make some noise for our favorite planet!

    Special prizes will be awarded for largest/loudest group, and for best Earth Day themed costume and display.

    Everyone with Earth Day enthusiasm is welcome to to participate.

    Registration is encouraged but not required.
